Māmala Hoa - Striking War Club
Established by Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole on July 3, 1907 in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, Māmala Hoa is solemnly dedicated to honor the memory of Kamehameha and uplift the kanaka maoli (native people of Hawaiʻi). Māmala Hoa has the distinction of being named after Kamehameha’s elite pūʻulu koa (guard unit of warriors) named Māmala Hoa (Striking War Club). This ancient pūʻulu koa were recognized for their skill and courage in battle and respected for their honor and loyalty to Kamehameha.

The Royal Order of Kamehameha I is the only organization in existence today that was established (1865) and promulgated by a King (Kamehameha V) and sovereign nation of Hawaiʻi. As a chapter member of this noble organization, Māmala Hoa continues its proud tradition of honor to Kamehameha and service to the kanaka maoli by advocating for Hawaiian rights, protecting wahi pana (sacred places), presenting the Kamehameha Festival, promoting the Haʻa Koa (Dance of the Warrior), and facilitating educational scholarships.
